YLDA renews partnership with FNF, plans for 2010 out
(Monday, February 1, 2010) The year 2010 marked the end of yet another decade – that which had
witnessed many of the world’s biggest challenges. As the world economy
is left reeling from the blows of recession and corporate defaults, the
reality of climate change and its catastrophic implications achieved
reluctant global confirmation and attention. Conflicts and civil unrest
remain as central themes in many countries across the globe and human
rights violations and political persecutions are proudly touted by
despotic regimes as a mockery of democratic processes.
These events present a dire need for concerned institutions to innovate
and adjust to the complexities borne from these challenges. This rings
true for the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia, as it immerses
itself to another year of strengthening liberal youth participation and
involvement in the region.
YLDA, in constant partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation,
has laid out activities and programs aimed at equipping member
organizations with essential tools to cope with the challenges of the
times.
For 2010, YLDA starts off with plans to conduct Network Building,
Capacity Building and Exploratory Visits to YLDA Member Organizations,
YLDA Observer Organizations, and YLDA Applicants to build stronger ties
and seek stronger commitments to support YLDA projects. In the
Philippines, the need to strengthen election-related competencies and
expand understanding of its conduct is recognized by YLDA as it
arranges to conduct election mission and capacity building assistance
project in Manila in cooperation with the Kabataang Liberal ng
Pilipinas.
The difficulties we face require YLDA member organizations to be more
cognizant of the value of administrative proficiency in their
day-to-day operation. Concurrent to this, YLDA plans to conduct a
Skills Workshop on Strategic Organizational Management in Singapore to
provide skills on secretariat management, risk and conflict management,
organizational accountability and transparency, networking and public
relations, professional event organizing, and complete staff works to
its members. YLDA believes that members would be more effective in
forwarding liberal solutions to problems by achieving efficiency in the
organizational level.
Leadership and governance is likewise becoming more and more complex as
it adjusts to societal and technological developments. To respond to
these global trends, YLDA has in store a workshop on transformative
leadership and governance to be held in Manado, Indonesia, aimed at
both introducing new leadership approaches and enhancing existing
capacities. YLDA has also chosen a very relevant subject for its third
workshop this year, 8th YLDA Leaders Workshop and 9th Annual General
Meeting) YLDA Thematic Workshop on the Promotion of Peace through
Conflict Resolutions and Democratization, as Asia is no stranger to the
ravages of insurgencies and conflicts. It seeks to provide members with
an in depth understanding of the dynamics of peace and conflict
resolution through the conduct of onsite missions in some
conflict-stricken areas and facilitation of a more perceptive
discussion of this issue.
"The programs and activities set by YLDA for this year reflects its
fervent commitment to the realization of liberal and democratic values
as well as its dedication in addressing global and regional concerns.
Members and participants could expect a rewarding and enriching
collaboration with YLDA for 2010." says YLDA President Jan Argy
Tolentino. (end)
