(Monday, November 30, 2009) YLDA was represented by its President Jan-Argy Tolentino, Executive Member Prakash Pyakurel and Finance Officer Emil Samaniego at the 32nd General Assembly of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (
IFLRY). They joined nearly two hundred delegates from 12-14 November in the Hague, Netherlands at the activity hosted by the Jonge Democraten and Jongeren Organisatie Vrijheid en Democratie.
The General Assembly also served as an avenue for the crafting of the new IFLRY manifesto--the core document that outlines what unites young liberals and other members of IFLRY.
This year, IFLRY held its biennial elections. Bart Woord of Jonge Democraten and Frederik Ferie of JULIS-Germany were elected as President and Secretary General, respectively. Mirna Mneimneh (Future Youth, Lebanon), Mauricio Lopez (Libertarian Youth, Costa Rica), Naomi Ichihara Rokkum (NUV, Norway) and Jordi Villanueva (JNC, Catalunya) were elected as Vice Presidents. The new Bureau also includes Jan van Run (JOVD, The Netherlands) as Treasurer and auditors Mats Lofstrom (SU, Finland) and Emily Dyred (RU ’94, Denmark)
IFLRY also organized a week-long seminar entitled "Human Trafficking: I am not for sale" in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, which Mr. Pyakurel and Mr. Samaniego attended. They were able to contribute an Asian perspective on these issues and are committed to sharing the knowledge they gained with their respective organizations and other YLDA members. (
