YLDA unveils Blog for Bangkok ToT, Nomination Forms Now Available
2008-04-18

In preparation for its Training of Trainors in Moderation and Facilitation in Bangkok, Thailand this coming May 27 to June 1, 2008, the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia Secretariat in Manila has unveiled the web blog that will act as the information and resource hub of the event.

The public, YLDA member and partner organizations specifically, is encouraged to visit to blog at http://www.yldabangkok2008.wordpress.com to learn more about the event and participate in some decisions that will be made along the way by the organizers. Important updates shall be posted in the blog, including the list of nominees and the final list of successful participants. Important documents and reading materials shall also be made available for public consumption.

Most importantly, the nomination form for the Bangkok Training of Trainors (ToT) is already available for downloading at the blog and all those wishing to apply for the training are encouraged to visit the blog to download the document.

In explaining the important role to be played by the blog for the success of the event, YLDA Program Officer and Head of the Secretariat Pey Canlas reiterated, "this is an attempt by the Secretariat to reach out, even at this stage of the preparations, to prospective nominees by member organizations in the hope of making them true partners in managing the Bangkok Training of Trainors seminar."

Ivy Ganadillo, a participant of an YLDA event on blogging and who is managing the website together with YLDA Intern Margaux Buenconsejo, emphasized that the blog was tailor-fitted to be interactive as it is envisioned to be "the primary medium where applicants and eventually, participants and organizers can interact before, during, and after the event."

This is the third YLDA event-blog that was constructed by previous participants of YLDA workshops on ICT done in Penang, Malaysia in May 2007. The other two are those in ICT (http://yldajakarta2007.wordpress.com/) and in Good Governance in Jakarta, Indonesia .

Garda Bangsa

Garda Bangsa was formed in 1998 following the successful political reform spearheaded by students and other campus activists to depose the tyrannical regime of President Suharto. The organization was founded by Abdurram Wahid, a former adviser of President Suharto who resigned following an escalation in government corruption and political management by the administration. He championed "Responsible Openness" within the government system and proposed the establishment of a Reform Committee in order to mitigate poor governance within the administration. His calls were left unheeded and so he eventually withdrew support for the government and joined the efforts advocating for reform in the government. Read more...
